Committees, Teams and Ministry Chairs

We hope that you will become involved with our committees, teams and events, some
of which are listed below.
This Adult Education group meets in the Beacon Room Sundays from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.
All adults welcome.
Adult Education: Questions of Faith - Carol Straughn
Questions of Faith meets in the Potter wing Sundays from 10-11 a.m. to discuss great
ideas. All adults welcome.
Sponsors activities in support of the church and in service to the community. Alliance
meets at the church on the second Tuesday of each month at 10:30 a.m. for a program,
followed by lunch and a business meeting. Open to all.
Our annual auction is held in the spring. The organizers arrange for various auction
items to be donated as well as provide an auction theme. The event includes a dinner
and entertainment. Volunteers are welcome to join the committee to ensure a successful
event.
The Board of Trustees has regular meetings on the second Thursday of the month at
the church at 7 p.m.
This committee head oversees property maintenance.
This committee oversees our annual pledge drive.
Our care ministry oversees the needs of church members. The chairs of the committee
manage a volunteer network comprised of church members who reach out to those in
the congregation who need some kind of support or assistance.
The church ministry team meets every month. The lead for that team plans
curriculum for the children’s Sunday morning Church School, sponsors youth
activities, and informs parents about the programs. Those serving on this team
include Juliet Wischmeyer, Sandy Kozik, Catharine McDonald, Danielle Keeton, Kim Lloyd, Sue Myers, and Cathy Richbourg.
The choir has practice at 7:30 p.m. most Wednesdays in the Sanctuary of the church.
If you like to sing, you are welcome to join. The choir director provides music
for services and other occasions. He is responsible for choir recruitment, direction;
orders music and supplies.
We appreciate those volunteers who make coffee before and after our worship services.
The chair of this committee schedules those who volunteer for that responsibility.
The chair of denominational affairs informs the congregation of activities within
the denomination and promotes participation in the national and regional affairs
of the Unitarian Universalist Association.
Our representative for the endowment fund directs investment of funds.
The finance chair prepares the annual budget for the approval of the congregation at the annual meeting.
The chair of the green sanctuary oversees the reduction of the church footprint on the environment.
High School Youth Group–YRUU - Tim Wheat
YRUU is a social and service organization for our high school youth.
Hospitality sponsors social gatherings to help church people get to know each other,
to introduce new members and to celebrate special occasions.
Our library chair purchases and catalogues books and maintains and operates the
church library.
Social and service organization for Junior High Youth
The music chair provides music for church services and other occasions and is responsible
for musical equipment and facilities.
The music director rovides music for services and other occasions. Responsible for
choir recruitment, direction; orders music and supplies.
Outdoor
Adventure Club - Ken Strong
These committe leads plan and organize outdoor camping and other adventures.
The role of the Outreach committee leads is to identify volunteer service
projects that benefit the Memphis community.
Public Relations and Promotion - Rod Starns
Our committee chair arranges for publicity of church programs and events in the
news media.

This team is charged with making our RE program better.
River Chimers - TBA
The River Readers meet the fourth Thursday each month in member’s homes to discuss
books and have a pleasant get together.
This committee's chair serves as liaison between the City of Memphis and the
church regarding use of church property for the Riverwalk Project.
Special Projects Manager - Larry Kalbach
The Special Projects Manager manages and coordinates special projects for the church.
The chair of the Summer of Faith Speaker Series plans and secures speakers for worship
services in July and August.
Supper Club involves small groups in host homes for dinner, conversation and getting
acquainted. The host calls those who sign up to attend and asks that you bring part
of the supper.
Supper Club Jr.

Based on Supper Club, this special supper club is for parents with young children.
This committee head schedules ushers for Sunday worship services.
Our web site developer is responsible for the design and maintenance of our web
site.
Our welcoming and membership chairs enroll those interested in becoming formal members
of the church and provide orientation for new and prospective members.
Women's Evening Group (Soup for the Soul) -
Carol Straughn
The Women’s Evening Group meets in the homes of members on the third Thursday of
the month, for social time and supper, followed by a program. All women are welcome.
