Outreach
Church of the River Outreach has many volunteer opportunities to make Memphis and
the world a better place while getting better acquainted with fellow Unitarian
members. They continue to evolve as the community's needs change.
The committee
has a committed relationship with their adopted school, Hawkins Mill Elementary.
In 2007, the committee hosted Learning Camps, etiquette classes, graduation
luncheons, and funded an art teacher. Through participation in MIFA's
meals-on-wheels program and working in partnership with St. John Methodist's
Soup Kitchen, the Church of the River Outreach Committee helps feed Memphis.
They have been actively involved with Shelby County Interfaith and the Downtown
Church Association's new Hospitality Hub, a center for the homeless.
Continually, they donate items needed by Manna House Day Shelter. Church of the
River Outreach is something to be proud of and be involved in; please join us in
our efforts to help others.
During April, 2008, merit students from our adopted school, Hawkins Mill
Elementary, journeyed to Washington DC where they met Congressman Steve Cohen.
Pictured here with the Congressman are honor students in grades 3 through 6. The
trip was sponsored in part through the generosity of a number of our members.
