We are beginning with the history of unitarian and universalist ideas present in religious movements beginning with the ancient Hebrew people, through Christianity and Islam, including Eastern and indigenous traditions as well. Then we'll consider the Cambridge Platform and explore how Unitarianism and Universalism emerged and evolved in North America, including their outsized impact on US history. The works of two prominent US theologians, Theodore Parker and James Luther Adams, will get particular attention. We'll look at our cherished Seven Principles, along with the Eighth. We will look at how JLA's Five Smooth Stones (its more recent progeny, Five Jagged Rocks) inform and express UU thought. Moving into this century, we will consider recent reorganizations, upheavals, and awakenings that have challenged and energized our movement. Finally, I will offer my personal take on the 'Seven Words You Can't Say in UU' (h/t to George Carlin): God, Sin, Salvation, Repentance, Prayer, Sacred, and Worship. The outline is for 10 weeks, but I will gladly take up more time to dwell on areas of particular interest or curiosity. There is plenty of room for your questions, observations, and inspirations. We'll start promptly at 10, but late arrivals are always welcome and drop-ins are encouraged.
