Unitarius Templom of Sepsiszentgyorgy

Transylvania (Romania) Partnership

Before the UUA Partnership program formed the Memphis congregation established a partnership with the Unitarian congregation of St. George while still under communism. After the fall of the totalitarian regime, Rev. Carley visited the partner church in 1991 and has continued with annual visits. COR contributed thousands of dollars to help the St. George congregation build a new sanctuary and the social hall was named "The Memphis Room.” Two different pilgrim groups have visited from COR, and ministers from St. George have visited Memphis and preached. Rev. Carley often preaches in St. George and has two sermons published in Transylvania minister association publication. The two congregations have participated in various programs together. The Christmas Candlelight service collection goes to the partner church and over the last previous years that money was matched by the St. George congregation to renovate the old section of the church to create a bed and breakfast addition to host visiting groups. It will be dedicated in September of 2015.
